Shamrock Trinity FREEBIE!

Teach students that St. Patrick's Day is more than leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold. Learning about the Patron Saint of Ireland is not only fun, it is also inspiring, as St. Patrick sacrificed much, endured hardships and isolation, all in the name of spreading the Gospel of Christ.

Although the story of how St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach about the Trinity is a legend, reading and learning about it brings a Godly element to our celebrations.

Thanksgiving Posters

There is something about the book of Psalms that soothes my soul.  When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I read and reread this encouraging book so much, that I just had to select David as his middle name (his first name is Christopher~ "Christ -bearer"). As we prepare for and anticipate our Thanksgiving celebrations and feasts, I think it's important to prepare our hearts as well.  Here's a verse that I have been meditating on the last few days:

I want to share with you a small set of posters I made to decorate your classroom. Some have Bible verses on them while others are more secular in nature. With my young sons and my primary students, I find Thanksgiving a great time to remind them that we should have a thankful attitude each and everyday!  We begin and end the day with thankful prayers to our gracious and merciful God.

Noah's Ark Retelling Cards

Hello!  I am Lauren from Teacher Mom of 3 and am so very excited for this new blogging adventure!   I wanted to share with you a little about my Noah's Ark Retelling Cards.

  
This Noah's Ark themed activity gets kids out of their seats to practice retelling a story.  Yes, you can use this with any story!  This "walk and talk" is a fun kinesthetic way for children to learn the components in a retelling.  You can also use this as an informal assessment when checking for understanding.

Simply print on card stock, laminate, and arrange the cards on the floor. Students walk along the path and retell a story after reading. The picture and explanations on the cards prompt students to give a detailed retelling (character, setting, problem, solution, et al).  I use this with my reading intervention groups and they absolutely love it!  This early in the year, we have not covered all parts of a retelling, so I only use the ones that we have learned.  

Almost all of my students by first grade (if not before) are familiar with Noah's story, so I can really help them to connect their prior knowledge to a new story they are reading.
