What do you think?

Here are two logos that I played around with this week.

I have been sick and so has my computer, so I may be way off target.  Perhaps, it is a little too busy.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanksgiving Posters

There is something about the book of Psalms that soothes my soul.  When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I read and reread this encouraging book so much, that I just had to select David as his middle name (his first name is Christopher~ "Christ -bearer"). As we prepare for and anticipate our Thanksgiving celebrations and feasts, I think it's important to prepare our hearts as well.  Here's a verse that I have been meditating on the last few days:

I want to share with you a small set of posters I made to decorate your classroom. Some have Bible verses on them while others are more secular in nature. With my young sons and my primary students, I find Thanksgiving a great time to remind them that we should have a thankful attitude each and everyday!  We begin and end the day with thankful prayers to our gracious and merciful God.

More Rosary Resources

This is Maria Manore from Kinder-Craze and I am SO thrilled to be a part of this great collaborative blog for sharing faith-based lessons, activities and resources. I noticed that Cindy (KinderKay) recently shared a great resource for praying the Rosary with her little ones.

I saw her post and felt compelled to share a Rosary resource from my classroom as well. This year I am praying a decade of the Rosary every week with my kindergarten students. We created our own child-friendly Rosaries with pipe cleaners and pony beads. You can read more about the craft here.

Once the Rosaries were complete, I created a prayer guide for myself to use as I lead the class in prayer (I am not a Rosary expert and need some reminders about the prayers and procedures). I know from personal experience that praying the Rosary can seem intimidating at first (lots of worries about what prayer to say when and what the Mysteries of the Rosary are) so I send a copy of the guide and prayer list to families that may be interested in praying the rosary at home as well.

I have gotten a great response from many Catholic teachers and I hope this prayer guide is helpful to you as well.

Have a blessed day!

How to Make a Burning Bush

Here is a quick video lesson about
Moses and the Burning Bush.

Watch closely because it is only "burning" at the very beginning of this clip. Of course, you can always push replay to see it again.

I would love to hear comments, if this is useful.
It takes a lot of time to put together, so if it is not, I will do something else.

I Thank God For...

Do you need a quick bulletin board idea or decoration for Thanksgiving???
Oh yes, and for Free!!!
Turkey Printable
You can print these on colored paper or the students may color them.  Older children can write what they are thankful for on the sign.  Younger children  either can draw a picture or have an adult write what they are thankful for on the sign. If desired, children may cut around the rectangular shape.

These can be used as book covers, Thanksgiving cards, or decorations.

A good bible story is when Jesus healed the ten lepers, but only one remembered to say thanks.

Noah's Ark Retelling Cards

Hello!  I am Lauren from Teacher Mom of 3 and am so very excited for this new blogging adventure!   I wanted to share with you a little about my Noah's Ark Retelling Cards.

This Noah's Ark themed activity gets kids out of their seats to practice retelling a story.  Yes, you can use this with any story!  This "walk and talk" is a fun kinesthetic way for children to learn the components in a retelling.  You can also use this as an informal assessment when checking for understanding.

Simply print on card stock, laminate, and arrange the cards on the floor. Students walk along the path and retell a story after reading. The picture and explanations on the cards prompt students to give a detailed retelling (character, setting, problem, solution, et al).  I use this with my reading intervention groups and they absolutely love it!  This early in the year, we have not covered all parts of a retelling, so I only use the ones that we have learned.

Almost all of my students by first grade (if not before) are familiar with Noah's story, so I can really help them to connect their prior knowledge to a new story they are reading.

I hope you and your students enjoy this activity as much as mine did!

Blessings to you and yours!

Angels for Little Ones

Hello!
This is Cindy (Kinderkay) from Love Those Kinders. I thought I would share another faith filled freebie!

This packet is about angels. My little ones have a  bit of trouble comprehending the different types of angels, so I thought I would write a mini unit that might make a bit of sense to them when learning about these mysterious beings. AND since I LOVE to have my kinders illustrate books about the topics in which they are learning, this resource is a book!

I chose these angels to highlight: Angels in general, the Angel Gabriel, the Angel Michael, and Guardian Angels. After discussion of each angel, my students drew a representation of each angel on the pages of the book. We also practiced the beautiful words of the the "Angel of God" prayer which I included as a page in the book.

I hope that you will find this resource valuable and that your little ones will derive some joy in learning about these spiritual beings! Click on the image to download the Google Doc.

Peace and Blessings,

Inspiration for All Saints Day!

About a week ago, Charolotte had a divine inspiration to start a new blog to share ideas that would help our little ones grow in their faith.  I'm so thankful for her inspiration; just the week before my teacher partner and I were discussing how our religion text left much to be desired in the way of additional, exciting material to really draw our chilren into the faith.  We spend many extra hours searching the web for related material to enhance our religion lessons.  How awesome it will be to come here and find the resources at hand!

So I really wanted to contribute a meaningful item to this blog.  As I was sitting in mass during All Saints Day listening to Father Terry's excellent homily geared to draw the children into the discussion, inspiration hit me!  I remembered a little project I had done with my kids in the past.  I came home, cleaned it up, put it into attractive packaging, and voila!  Who Can Be a Saint was born!

I used the project with my kids at school on Friday as a review, and they really came out cute.  We hung them in the hall for everyone to see how we could all work towards becoming saints!  Of course, when you ask the kids what is a saint, they come back with familiar saint names.  Through our discussion, we got to the main point -- a saint is anyone who has died and living in heaven with God, and anyone can be a saint.

Here's a finished sample of one of the projects.  I cut off her halo, but it's there!

If you would like to have a copy of this project, just click on the picture below.
I hope you and your little ones enjoy this project!  God bless. . .
